A really useful book for all who enjoy sewing at any level, as relevant now as when it was published. A hardback with 700 illustrations, it is inscribed 1937 inside the front cover, and has chapters on basic sewing, home dressmaking, lingerie & underwear, tailored clothes, renovating your wardrobe, knitting and crochet all in 221 instructive passages with photographs and easy to understand diagrams. From embroidery stitches, french seams, ruffles, pleating, smocking, necklines, covered buttons, cutting out and pattern making.....it is all here. The book measures 10" x 7" and is in remarkable condition for its age, the spine intact, the 224 pages are unmarked and undamaged, the cover shows some wear and the end pieces show foxing. A really useful book and an invaluable glimpse of social history.
